Key plot points
A Cicero flashback shows Jimmy and his partner Marco using a counterfeit wristwatch to con a man in a bar. The present-day story picks up with the Kettlemans.
They agree to go home and to pay Jimmy $30,000 to ignore the stolen funds. Jimmy gets an angry Nacho released. He uses the payment to compete with HHM, putting up a billboard that copies the firm’s logo and Howard’s appearance. A cease-and-desist requires the advertisement to come down.
Jimmy then stages the rescue of the worker who is removing the billboard, so the local news covers him as a hero. The coverage brings new clients, which annoys Howard. Jimmy hides the stunt from Chuck. Chuck learns about it after taking a neighbor’s newspaper.
Character development
Marco, in the flashback, is the old partnership: the con as shared charm. Howard is the present target, because the billboard borrows his face rather than the firm’s work.
Chuck is kept outside the performance. The newspaper is a small physical way the story enters the house Jimmy has been managing around electricity and around this secret.
Themes
Public virtue is the product. The rescue is arranged so that the audience, not a court, delivers the verdict. Clients follow the broadcast.
The $30,000 is not an ordinary fee for representation. It is payment for silence. The billboard converts that money into a lawyer the city can recognize.
What to watch for
Watch what Jimmy copies. It is not a brief or a method. It is a logo and Howard’s look. The rivalry is about who is allowed to resemble the firm.
Watch the newspaper in Chuck’s hands. The episode plants that he will not remain inside the version Jimmy tells him. The next hour begins from that theft of a paper.
Easter eggs and fun observations
The season list’s Cicero flashback puts Jimmy with Marco in a bar con that uses a watch passed off as expensive. Marco is the name the finale comes back to. This page does not extend the con.
In 2002 the list says the billboard copies the firm’s logo and Howard’s look, and that a staged rescue becomes local news. The imitation is the visual the source actually describes. Nothing else is inferred from the background.
Sources checked
Episode titles, numbers, U.S. premiere dates, writers, and directors for seasons 1 through 6 were checked on 2026-10-07 against the English Wikipedia articles for those seasons. The season 1 article lists an official AMC series address. On 2026-10-07 a request to that address returned AMC’s Page Not Found page (HTTP 400), so it is cited as the listed series page, not as a page this guide was able to read.
Two official AMC pages did open. The Central Europe series page states the creators, the regular cast, and a ten-episode debut season. Bob Odenkirk’s cast page on amc.com sits on the Better Call Saul path and identifies him with the series; it does not list season 1 episode credits, and those credits were not taken from it. This guide does not reproduce dialogue, subtitles, or another outlet’s recap.
